We are proud to be sponsoring our graphic designer, Gareth Hardy as he will be running in this years London Marathon 2024. Over the past few months Gareth has been training hard for the marathon and as a company we wanted to show our support and help by donating to his cause and helping him get to the target he has set.
We asked Gareth to provide a short summary of his desire to run in the marathon, what inspired him and where the money will be going.
“The London Marathon takes place on Sunday 21st April 2024 and is a total distance of 26.2 miles. I’ve always said to myself that I would run a marathon before the age of 40, and since I reach that milestone in July of this year, this was my final chance to achieve that goal. I’ve always been a runner but hadn’t started to take it seriously until a year ago. It was at this point that I decided to apply for a marathon entry through various charities as it is notoriously hard to get into via the public ballot due to so many people from all over the world making applications. I didn’t really expect to hear anything back, but to my surprise in July 2023, the one charity that meant the most to me offered a place. I was obviously ecstatic but also the reality of what I had signed up for began to sink in! 26 miles miles (or 42km) is a hell of a long way, and by that point I had only ever ran a few 10km’s before, and they were on the treadmill! Running on concrete is a totally different ball game.”
“The charity I am running for is SSAFA – the armed forces charity. They help military veterans and their families should they ever need support following service, such as injuries or bereavement. They are particularly close to my heart as my Grandad had volunteered for them for over 30 years. He sadly passed away in 2021 so I will be running the marathon in his memory. I am looking forward to it but I will also look forward to when it is over aswell – so I can get some normality back into my life. I’ve been training for roughly 5 months properly, with 30km being the longest I have had to run. It takes up a lot of my time, as that run took 3 hours and I am having to run 4 times a week. I have to keep reminding myself that it will all be worth it when I cross the finish line.”
“I’ve been set with the task of raising £2,500 for SSAFA – here is a link to my donation page: https://2024tcslondonmarathon.enthuse.com/pf/gareth-hardy any support would be greatly appreciated!”
We wish Gareth well in the marathon which takes place on Sunday 22nd April 2024 and invite anyone to help donate to this worthy cause.
